How much experience do I need to drive for Sky?

You need one year minimum of OTR experience. Go to our Driver Qualifications page for a list of our requirements.

Where does Sky Transportation hire drivers?

Sky Transportation hires drivers from El Paso, TX; Dallas, TX; Albuquerque, NM; and Memphis, TN. We employ experienced drivers from these cities and their surrounding areas.

Does Sky Transportation offer benefits?

We offer benefits after 60 days. Company drivers receive medical benefits and paid time off. Visit our Pay & Benefits page for more information.

Does Sky have paid driver orientation?

Yes, we pay drivers $100 to attend our one-day driver orientation.

How fast can I get on the road after applying?

Sky drivers average three days from first application to first dispatch—one of the best times in the industry!

OTR (Over-the-Road) Drivers

Is OTR trucking a good career?

Yes! If you’re passionate about trucking, driving OTR is a great way to make a living. OTR drivers earn more than local drivers, and they get to see the country. Learn more about life as an OTR driver here.

What type of freight will I haul?

Sky Transportation hauls dry van freight across the country.

How frequently will I be home?

We offer driver-friendly routes with weekly home time. Our dedicated driver managers work with you to create your schedule. We help you get home when you need to be.

Can an OTR truck driver bring children or passengers?

At Sky Transportation, company drivers may not bring passengers. However, lease and owner-operators may have passengers. The fee for passengers is $75 per person monthly.

How much do OTR truck drivers make at Sky Transportation?

Sky Transportation pays company OTR drivers per mile. Pay varies. OTR owner-operators earn a higher pay per mile.

How much do regional/assigned truck drivers make at Sky Transportation?

Regional OTR drivers earn pay per mile. A driver’s pay rate can vary. Owner-operators with regional routes earn a higher pay per mile.

How much do owner operators make?

Sky Transportation pays owner-operators a higher competitive pay per mile. Plus, owner-operators benefit from a negotiated national fuel discount. Check out our Pay & Benefits page for more pay information.

Does Sky have a detention bonus?

Yes, we offer a detention bonus of $50 after two hours.

Does Sky offer layover/breakdown pay?

Yes, we do. Although it’s rare with our newer models, Sky guarantees $150 a night for layover pay. If your truck is in the shop overnight or you are unable to sleep in your truck, we will make lodging accommodations as needed.

Equipment & Leasing

What if I own my truck? Can I drive as an owner-operator?

Own a truck? No problem! You can work with Sky as an owner-operator. You’ll earn a higher pay per mile and receive our fuel discount, saving you money!

Do you have a truck lease purchase program?

Lease a truck while you drive with our Drive-to-Own program. While in the program, you will earn weekly cents per mile pay and work towards owning your truck. Once you complete the program, the truck is yours!

What types of semi-trucks will I drive at Sky Transportation?

Our drivers work with the latest aerodynamic and fuel-efficient equipment. We bring in new Freightliner Cascadias, Kenworth T680s, International LTs and Peterbilts. For more information, visit our Equipment page.

Do Sky Transportation's OTR trucks have refrigerators?

The majority of Sky’s trucks come with refrigerators, a mixture of electric- or gas-powered APUs, and a fresh mattress for each driver!

Does Sky Transportation have on-site maintenance?

Yes! We offer on-site maintenance and 24-hour road call. Call us whenever you need us. We’re here to support you.

Are Sky trucks governed?

We govern our trucks at 68 mph on the pedal and cruise. Note that owner and lease operators have a higher limits.

Does Sky have inward-facing cameras?

NO! Unlike some trucking companies, Sky does not have inward-facing cameras for our drivers. We only install outward-facing cameras that are activated for incidents.
